As part of a sponsored post for Collective Bias® I created a Kool Creation by dyeing my daughter’s hair with Kool-Aid drink mix and entered the Kool-Aid + Big Time Rush Contest.
When I was in high school my friends and I would dye our hair with Kool-Aid before football games. Purple, usually, as that was one of our school colors. Fast-forward 15 years, and I find myself teaching my daughter the same trick! A fun hair dye that is easy, affordable and not permanent? AWESOME!
How to dye your hair with Kool-Aid
We started off by visiting Walmart to buy Kool-Aid…
Maya already knew that she wanted red, so we grabbed a few packets of Cherry Kool-Aid. Maura wanted to try purple, so she opted for Grape.
We also added a few other Kool-Aid product to our shopping cart…
You can dye your hair with Kool-Aid in just a few simple steps!
1) Choose the color (flavor) you’d like.
2) Untangle your hair.
3) Find a bowl that you don’t mind staining and pour the contents of 2 Kool-Aid packets into it. I used 3 for Maya’s dark hair.
4) Add 2 cups of boiling water and stir until the powder dissolves.
5) Dip hair into the Kool-Aid for at least 10 minutes. Maya could barely stand the heat from the steam!
6) Dry hair with a towel (an old one, since it may also be stained).
I’d recommend wearing rubber gloves or your hands will be dyed, too!
7) Brush out hair and let it air dry or blow dry it if you’re impatient.
Maya’s hair is fairly dark, so I honestly wasn’t sure how this would turn out, but she’s thrilled with the results! As for how long it lasts, she’s washed her hair a couple of times and the color is still bright. I remember my color would last at least a couple of weeks, fading out slowly, but my hair is significantly lighter and not as thick as hers, so results may vary.
Maya enjoyed a Kool-Aid Jammer as a reward for all her hard work!
Kool-Aid + Big Time Rush Contest
Maya’s dip-dyed hair would be a great look to sport at a concert, don’t you think? Right now, if you make a Kool Creation out of Kool-Aid, you can enter the Kool-Aid + Big Time Rush Contest for a chance to win Big Time Rush concert tickets and Meet & Greet passes.
Entering is easy. After making your ‘Kool Creation’, visit the contest page at see.walmart.com/summercreations, upload a photo of what you made, answer a few questions, and that’s it! You’re entered for a chance to win tickets to see Big Time Rush. You must be 13 years or older to enter, so you may have to do it for your child. Maya’s a fan, so you know we entered the contest!
Discounted Big Time Rush tickets
If you know you just HAVE to buy BTR tickets, be sure to download the Shoparoo app. When you scan in your Walmart receipt showing at least a $6 Kool-Aid purchase into the app, you’ll get a discount code for tickets to Big Time Rush. Cool, huh? Download the app by clicking on the Shoparoo badge in my sidebar – the green button with the kangaroo!
This project was fun! Have you ever dyed your (or your kid’s) hair with Kool-Aid? How did it turn out?
